Baseball Committee Approves Additional National Championship Opportunities

At the 2011 AAU National Convention in Puerto Rico the Baseball Sport Committee unanimously approved many enhancements to the AAU Baseball program.

Listening to our membership, the committee determined that when it comes to National Championships - especially in terms of dates and location - one size does not fit all.

Therefore, the committee has implemented the 9U through 13U Grand Nationals at ESPN Wide World of Sports in Orlando, Florida, in June, and the 9U through 12U East Coast Nationals in Greenville, South Carolina, in July. There are plans to kick off a West Coast Nationals in 2012. The 14U through Upperclassmen will remain as AAU Nationals.

Filing an Intent to Participate form does not secure your entry into any of the AAU Nationals. Entries are secured once the online registration has been completed and registration fees submitted, provided the team participates in its district qualifier. Teams from states that may not have a district qualifier will request an At-Large bid. The winner of the Diamond division Grand Nationals in the 10U and 12U age groups will go on to represent AAU in the New Era National Youth Baseball Champions in Memphis, Tennessee in August.

The entry fee for all AAU National Championships is $750. The $750 includes tournament patches. The patches may either be worn on the uniform or kept as a memento of the event.

There is a seven-game guarantee for the 9U through the Underclassmen age groups. In the first round of pool play, all teams will be seeded in pools of four. After the first round, first- and second-place in that round will be placed in the Diamond division. The remaining teams will be placed in the Gold division, again in pools of four. The results of the second round of pool play will determine each team's seeding in the single-elimination round.
